A few more images- we have found that the smaller chips tend to be more visually interesting. The first is a collection of FETs at 16x or 40x magnification:

One of the images was taken using epi-DIC, but all other images taken with epi-brightfield (a tungsten halogen source). The various colors are most likely due to a combination of thin-film interference from dielectric layers and surface plasmon resonances from the thin metal layers. The next image is of a MEMS (micro electro-mechanical) device (8x):

The two large interdigitated regions are the strain gauges. The next images are of unknown devices, usually acquired between 8x and 16x:
